Take parts from Terminator (hero traveling back in time to stop a future war against mankind), The Matrix (another martial arts hero in sweeping leather jacket), ET (an extraterrestrial that needs help to call home to be fetched by peers), The Abyss (a climactic scene where a giant spaceship leaves above a oil rig) and a dash of Transformers (shape shifting machines). Let this brew in a mix of expository and silly dialogue, bad acting and cheap vfx. Then you’ll get this soup. Oh, don’t forget to add some corny gangsters looking for the alien weapons technology…
